Lebanese authorities arrested a fugitive linked to a terrorist suspect linked to a 2015 bombing in Beirut’s southern suburbs, reported the National News Agency on Wednesday.
The Army Command announced in a statement that its intelligence directorate had detained Mohammed Ahmed Abdulghani al-Hujairi for his connection to Syrian fugitive terrorist Sattam al-Shtewi, who is the main perpetrator of the 2015 Bourj al-Barajneh bombing in Beirut.
He is also suspected of being involved in the killing of two military personnel, Pierre Bashaalani and Ibrahim Zahraman, in an ambush by terrorists in the northeastern border town of Arsal in 2013.
In addition, he is suspected of being involved in smuggling weapons and transferring funds to terrorist groups in Arsal.
At least 40 people were killed and over 200 wounded in twin suicide bombings targeting Bourj al-Barajneh in November 2015. The ISIS terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack.
