Saudi Arabia and Kuwait signed on Wednesday a deal to establish a joint coordination council, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

The agreement was signed in Kuwait between Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.

Jubeir had arrived traveled to Kuwait on Tuesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, he held talks with Emir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The minister conveyed during the meeting the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.

They then discussed bilateral ties and the latest regional and international developments.

The meeting was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Kuwait Prince Sultan bin Saad bin Khalid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political and Economic Affairs Ambassador Dr. Adel bin Siraj Mirdad and Director General of the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Khaled bin Musaed Al-Angari.

The Saudi cabinet had on Tuesday approved the formation of the Saudi-Kuwaiti coordination council.

Coordination councils established between the Kingdom and a number of Gulf, Arab and world countries set an example to follow in terms of joint cooperation and development of trade relations.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
