Bahrain announced its decision to open a consulate in Morocco’s southern city of Laayoune, which came following a phone call between King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Morrocan King Mohammed VI.
The move was confirmed by Bahrain's ambassador to Morocco Khalid bin Salman bin Jabr Al-Musallam, stressing Bahrain’s stance in supporting the Moroccan territorial sovereignty and national unity.
Ambassador Al-Musallam said that the inauguration of the consulate general of Bahrain in the city of Laayoune is a decision that consecrates continuous support of Bahrain to Morocco.
It also reflects strong political relations based on brotherhood and solidarity, in defense of the unity of both countries.
He also expressed Bahrain’s keenness to further enhance the Bahraini-Moroccan relations and advance them to wider horizons.
Notably, the UAE was the first Arab state to open a diplomatic mission in Laayoune earlier this month.
Also, Asharq Al-Awsat learned that Jordan will also open a consulate in the area next week.
Sources familiar with the matter said the event will be inaugurated by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita.
