The Palestine Liberation Organization accused Israel of drafting and securing new settlement plans ahead of its plans to annex portions of the West Bank.

A report, published by a PLO bureau, suggested that Israeli settlers are working to create new settlements under the protection of the Israeli army.

The report stated that groups of settlers began establishing and installing settlement outposts in different areas in the West Bank.

“What Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on July 1, about it being the date set to expand annexation plans for portions of the West Bank, has been launched by settler ranks and Jewish terror organizations,” the report said.

The report documented groups of Israeli settlers setting up tents on lands owned by Palestinians in different areas in the West Bank, including the Jordan Valley. This comes in preparation for seizing and confiscating Palestinian-owned lands located on the outskirts of settlement blocs and Israeli army camps.

These tents were erected in the eastern parts of Tubas city, west of Bethlehem, areas overlooking Nablus and in Hebron.

The report emphasized that Israeli occupation soldiers who are deployed to military checkpoints, whether fixed or mobile, inform Palestinian citizens passing by and living in the aforementioned areas that those lands belong to Israel.

Since announcing its intention to annex parts of the West Bank, Israel has implemented a series of measures on the ground that include seizing lands, closing areas, building roads, and pushing settlement plans in a way the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said represents the largest incitement for right-wingers in Israel and settlers to engage in the most terrible crimes and violations against Palestinians.

The Palestinian report denounced Israel’s settlement projects, saying that there is a new project for 240 settlement units at the heart of Jerusalem.

The new project includes five skyscrapers that include housing units, commercial stores and small scale hotels.

The European Union on Monday condemned new Israeli measures to tighten control of the West Bank and pave the way for more settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, AFP reported.

"The European Union condemns recent decisions by Israel's security cabinet to expand Israeli control in the West Bank. This move is another step in the wrong direction," EU spokesman Anouar El Anouni told journalists.

The atrocities unleashed on El-Fasher in Sudan's Darfur region last October were a "preventable human rights catastrophe", the United Nations said Monday, warning they now risked being repeated in the neighbouring Kordofan region.

"My office sounded the alarm about the risk of mass atrocities in the besieged city of El-Fasher for more than a year ... but our warnings were ignored," UN rights chief Volker Turk told the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He added that he was now "extremely concerned that these violations and abuses may be repeated in the Kordofan region".

The General Secretariat of the Arab League strongly condemned decisions by Israeli occupation authorities to impose fundamental changes on the legal and administrative status of the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and signed agreements, SPA reported.

In a statement, the Arab League said the measures include facilitating the confiscation of private Palestinian property and transferring planning and licensing authorities in the city of Hebron and the area surrounding the Ibrahimi Mosque to occupation authorities.

It warned of the serious repercussions of these actions on the rights of the Palestinian people and on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The statement reaffirmed the Arab League’s firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
