The Saudi-led Arab Coalition, which is backing Yemen’s legitimate government, stressed that the Riyadh Agreement serves as a bridge to the next phase awaited by Yemenis. It will unite ranks, restore normality to life and reinvigorate the economy.

Great efforts have been exerted by the coordination and political liaison team and the coalition command in Aden and have culminated in the separation of forces in Abyan and their withdrawal from Aden, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“There is no doubt that the implementation of the military part of the Riyadh Agreement, represented in separating the military forces in the Abyan governorate and their pullout from Aden, is a bridge to a future that Yemenis await,” he asserted.

He added that the Riyadh Agreement helps in achieving a normal life that is anchored in uniting ranks, ending military appearances and stimulating the economy.

The Riyadh Agreement was inked last year to ease tensions in southern Yemen between troops loyal to the legitimate government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC). The two sides are part of a coalition fighting the Iran-backed Houthis.

On Sunday, the Arab Coalition gave an update on progress made on implementing the military aspect of the agreement.

The process of separating the forces in Abyan and their exit from Aden was proceeding with “discipline and commitment” for a fourth day.

The Arab Coalition also said it “appreciates the commitment of the legitimate Yemeni government and the STC in implementing the military aspect of the deal.”

The two sides started withdrawing their forces on Friday from the southern province of Abyan, military officers from both sides said.

Last week, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, said the Riyadh Agreement would “fulfill peace, security and stability,” and the Yemeni people would “reap the fruits” of the agreement.

The European Union on Monday condemned new Israeli measures to tighten control of the West Bank and pave the way for more settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, AFP reported.

"The European Union condemns recent decisions by Israel's security cabinet to expand Israeli control in the West Bank. This move is another step in the wrong direction," EU spokesman Anouar El Anouni told journalists.

The atrocities unleashed on El-Fasher in Sudan's Darfur region last October were a "preventable human rights catastrophe", the United Nations said Monday, warning they now risked being repeated in the neighbouring Kordofan region.

"My office sounded the alarm about the risk of mass atrocities in the besieged city of El-Fasher for more than a year ... but our warnings were ignored," UN rights chief Volker Turk told the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He added that he was now "extremely concerned that these violations and abuses may be repeated in the Kordofan region".

The General Secretariat of the Arab League strongly condemned decisions by Israeli occupation authorities to impose fundamental changes on the legal and administrative status of the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and signed agreements, SPA reported.

In a statement, the Arab League said the measures include facilitating the confiscation of private Palestinian property and transferring planning and licensing authorities in the city of Hebron and the area surrounding the Ibrahimi Mosque to occupation authorities.

It warned of the serious repercussions of these actions on the rights of the Palestinian people and on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The statement reaffirmed the Arab League’s firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
